Here are some things that turn me on right now, and some that don't.
* Janet Jackson's new album Discipline. A much needed return to good, and most importantly NEW sounding music. Me likee. DOWNLOAD: Rock With U.
* Dolly Parton's new album Backwoods Barbie. A classic country album by a classy country legend. She is on her game, y'all and I predict 2008 to be Dolly's (see:9 to 5 The Musical) DOWNLOAD: Shinola.
* Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Young filmmaker Sam McConnell told me about her this past weekend and has turned me into a BIG fan. I listened to one album, 100 Days, 100 Nights, then immediately downloaded her past 2: Naturally and Dap-Dippin' With... and I must say all three are genius. DOWNLOAD: Stranded In Your Love (from Naturally), What Have You Done For Me Lately? (from Dap-Dippn' With...), and 100 Days, 100 Nights (from 100 Days, 100 Nights).
* American Idol. It's all about David Archuleta and Michael Johns are it for me right now. The girls all kinda suck so far. (Many thanks to the ULTIMATE American Idol site: Rickey.org)
TURN OFFS:
* Big Brother: Til Death... These are the most hideous people in America right now. One girl is throwing her boyfriend under the bus by claiming he's a racist. One bitchy gay queen is making fun of a girl's dead father (who committed suicide by hanging himself). One old(er) bitch made her partner feel like he was the grossest person in the world by mocking him to everyone that would listen -- including her partner. And ALL of them are huge gossips and troublemakers. If any of them come out of this smelling like a rose, something is definitely wrong... On a positive note, James has a big dick.(NSFW)
* Mariah Carey. Her new song Touch My Body is bo-ring. And very 2006. She's back to the whispering, "sexy" voice. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. On a positive note, she looks amazing.
* This Presidential Race. Can it just be November already? I don't care if McCain slept with some blond lobbyist. I don't care if Obama lifted his speeches off someone else. I don't even care if Clinton is desperately grasping for straws to help her get the delegates' nomination in August. BO-RING! On a positive note, Bush is a d-list celebrity right now and I hear next to nothing about him. And that's a good thing.
