In keeping with the numerous best-of lists on TV and on the 'net, I've decided to name my favorite album, film, tv show, and person. You may not agree, but this is my blog not yours.
ALBUM:
AMY WINEHOUSE - BACK TO BLACK : In her sophomore album, Amy Winehouse hits a home-run with a collection of deeply personal songs all backed by a sound that was inspired by "girl groups of the 50's and 60's". I can honestly say that I have not stopped listening to this album since the day I received it. Her voice, to me, is a cross between Billie Holliday and Shirley Bassey and has classic jazz singer written all over it. It's also been rumored that she has been approached to sing the theme song for the next Bond film... And the lyrics are brilliant : "I love you much / It's not enough / You love blow and I love puff" - (Back To Black)..."What kind of fuckery is this? / You made me miss the Slick Rick gig" - (Me & Mr. Jones)..."I'd rather be home with Ray / I aint got seventy days" - (Rehab). This album won't be out in the U.S. until March 2007, but try your hardest to get a copy of it ASAP.
Runners-Up: Prophet Omega - The Natural World, Christina Aguilera - Back to Basics, Rocco DeLuca & The Burden - I Trust You To Kill Me
FILM:
It wasn't a great movie year, but I think Little Miss Sunshine was my fave. It was simple, beautiful, funny, unpredictable and well acted -- all the things I love about going to see a movie. I am also now in total love with Abagail Breslin. That girl is going to be an acting force to be reckoned with, mark my words.
Runners-Up: Shortbus (the most important film of the year), The Queen, Dreamgirls, Borat, Cars, and Letters From Iwo Jima (which should win the Academy Award for Best Picture).
TV SHOW CHANNEL:
Probably the hardest for me to pick because there was so many good shows on this year. When I sat down and thought about which was my favorite, three shows immediately popped into my mind: Deadwood, Rome, and Big Love. Since all 3 were equally genius and all were on HBO, I guess I'm gonna change this category to Favorite TV Channel. All the shows I watch on HBO are brilliantly acted, directed, produced, etc. I can't tell you how much I look forward to Sunday nights. (I will, however, let you know that Lucky Louie and, unfortunately, The Sopranos do not fall into that category...)
Runners-Up: ABC (Gray's Anatomy, Ugly Betty, Brothers and Sisters), NBC (Heroes, The Office, My Name Is Earl, 30 Rock), and Fox (24, So You Think You Can Dance, American Idol)
PERSON OF THE YEAR:
Me.

DAYS LEFT IN OFFICE: 752
