If you lived in NYC on Sept. 11th, 2001 you witnessed firsthand (and up-close) what others around the world saw on their televisions. The sights that were seen were horrifying. The sounds that were heard were haunting. Even the smells in the air that permeated the city were retching.
I've known for a while that Oliver Stone was making a movie about two Port Authority Police Officers, John McLoughlin and Will Jimeno, who were trapped beneath the rubble of the felled towers. At first I was angry that he would make such a film so soon after that terrible event. How would people react to seeing it all re-created on the "big screen"? It's been nearly 5 years since it's happened, but the wounds are still fresh. I, like many others, did live in NYC and did witness up-close the plane-bombings and destruction the World Trade Center. I know for a fact that I could not watch something like that -- I get teary eyed just looking at images of the towers on fire.
Well today the trailer for Oliver Stone's World Trade Center is up and, yes, it's a bit upsetting. Apparently Mr. Stone is going for a story of survival and to those 2 men who's story is told I tip my hat. But I still won't be seeing it. Still too painful.
