Parade Chairman John Dunleavy told the The Irish Times:
“If an Israeli group wants to march in New York, do you allow Neo-Nazis into their parade? If African Americans are marching in Harlem, do they have to let the Ku Klux Klan into their parade?...If we let the ILGO (Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization) in, is it the Irish Prostitute Association next?”
Nice, right? So gays are the biggest threat/mortal enemy of the Irish? And why would the blacks only march in Harlem? Riddle me this Fatman.
You, sir, are guilty of assholism.
As an Irish gay guy I have to say that I don't have a problem with them banning gays marching under a separate gay banner. As far as I know (though I admit i may be misinformed) they don't have a problem with them marching under the banner of a particular county. If the Irish community wants to organise a march commemorating an outlandish, pure-as-the driven-snow version of Irishness that never really existed then that's their business. Every nation/ethnicity/racial group needs their own mythology (and I think on the one day of the year when we celebrate our ethnicity we could be big enough to put sexuality on the back burner). Anyway, I though the aim was integration.

Of course, the simple solution would be to move to England. Over here on St Pat's nobody is actually sober enough to be able to stagger more than the five steps required to move from one drinking den to the next, let alone walk in a parade...so it just ain't a problem.
