Hate to jump on the bandwagon, but just saw Charlize in Monter and was blown away by her performance. I don't even think I need to see Diane, or Naomi, or Samantha, or Keisha to know where my vote is going. That bitch was jacked up in that movie, y'all...!
Seriously, it's great to see actors giving their all to a role and she added humanity to a woman who, to most, would be thought of as inhumane. Much respect for her.
I think the changes are largely cosmetic. It's still Charlize. She's not an Academy-Award winning actress. Yes, it's great that a beautiful, if largely wooden young woman, made herself ugly. But, it's not a nuanced or esp. emotional performance. If she wins, it's the Hilary Swank Oscar curse--she'll never have that good a part again.

This performance is the kind of performance that deserves the Academy Award. Charlize totally transformed herself, mind, body and soul. She was fantastic.
