Even though the new Robyn video for Hang With Me is out today (thanks to Towelroad for the link), I still prefer the live acoustic version that not only shows off Robyn's unique voice, but focuses on the lyrics...and if you know me, you KNOW I'm all about the lyrics of songs.
Thinking about wasted talent tonight and found this video to show what can happen when someone's amazing talent gets clouded by personal issues. Miss Amy Winehouse has an INSANE talent which is now being wasted and this video exemplifies what she has.
Tonight I am resting up for a full 6 days of visitors, b-day parties, and playing host for both. So I had to put Mr. Donny Hathaway on to soothe, smooth, and fill my night w/ what I think calm sounds like. This cover is prolly one of his best (not to mention one of my favorite standards). Don't believe me? Press play, close your eyes, and just listen...
I heard this song on my way home from work tonight and it's one of my favorites, so I had to share it. It was written by Peter Allen (and was one of the best, if not gayest, moments in The Boy From Oz) and the lyrics are amazing and so simple...
This summer's music is kinda nice - more laid back and easy. I kinda like this Kylie song (the lyrics are great) and love the video. Here it is:
"It hurts...When you get too close...But baby it hurts...If love is really good...You just want more..Even if it throws you to the fire fire fire fire...All the lovers...That have gone before...They don't compare to you...Don't be running...Just give me a little bit more...They don't compare...All the lovers."
You may or may not know this but my fave albums are Trio & Trio 2 which were recorded by 3 of my favorite singers; Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. Below are 2 songs off the album which'll give you a taste of how amazing these 3 sound together.
Geek fact: both albums won multiple Grammys and the first was nominated for Album of the Year in 1987.
Sure the song is a bit repetitive and she may need to pronunciate a bit more, but this girl is insanely talented and is only 9 years old. Her name is Heather Russell and I predict we'll see that name in the future.
Okay, so I came upon this today and I have to share it with you. It's from Raquel Welch's TV special from the 70s and she, like many sexy actresses from her day, attempts to sing. The fact that she really can't is masked by where-the-fuck-are-we locations and Bob Mackie costumes (though I will admit that her white dress is ssssssssssssstunning). And, yes, my homo ass is loving ALL of it.
My question is: why don't today's actresses do shizz like this? I think Sandra Bullock...Angelina Jolie...Pamela Anderson needs a singin'-n-dancin' special of her own.
And if you like it, click here for Brigitte Bardot singing about a motorcycle on her special, click here to watch Cheryl Ladd (aka the Poor Man's Farrah Fawcett) giving you tropical-heat-realness on her special, and click here to watch Ann-Margretsinging attempting to sing Proud Mary with Tina Turner.
I just read over on Towleroad that Barney Frank was called a faggot by some crazy teabagger. I, too, am a faggot and will gladly kick your sorry ass for saying that. Unless you're also a faggot. We OWN that word.
And getting your ass kicked by a faggot will, I'm very sure, be humiliating for you... How to explain to your other ignorant friends?
I like Taylor Swift as a songwriter, she seems to be a nice girl, but she can't sing live to save her life. The last two performances she gave (Hope for Haiti/The Grammys) were shiteous - she was singing flat. And then, to add insult to injury, she was singing
trying to harmonize with Stevie Nicks and failing miserably.
Now, I realize that she's a young artist and all, but if you're gonna sweep the Grammys, at least have the talent that all those who were up against her have. Did you see Pink's performance...?? She stayed on key while singing upside down, wet, and hanging from a huge white silk hammock.
I'm ba-a-a-a-a-a-ck! After 5 days of settling, I've started the work search and have decided to update this beyotch daily. I had 2 good meetings today: one on the phone and one out-and-about and the ball has begun to roll. It's amazing how much people want to help you when you actually ask them...
And Greg Scarnici sent me his latest video that I thought I'd share because it made me laugh. It's not that SFW, but it's aint too bad.
I recorded a live set at Therapy last Tuesday and I'm sharing it with you, should you want it. It's quite "driving" and I like to think of it as a journey across the country: Meet Me Half-Way (Leaving NYC), Faster Pussycat Kill (Philadelphia), Flashdance (Chicago), Pon De Floor (Indianapolis), Russian Roulette (Nashville), Videophone (New Orleans), Louboutins (Dallas), Dirty Money (Denver), Telephone (Salt Lake City), Make Me (Phoenix), Tik Tok (Las Vegas), Separate Ways (Huntington Beach), Seven Nation Army (L.A. - Sunset Strip).
Yes, I zig-zagged across the U.S., but who cares...?
Not only did they take sectionals, they were nominated for 4 Golden Globe Awards this morning including Best TV Series, Comedy/Musical. Congrats to Matt Morrison (go OCHSA!), Lea Michelle and Jane Lynch on their nominations.
Okay, so the uber-talented Adam Joseph has not only covered one of my fave songs, but made an AMAZING video to go with it and it has an incredible message at the end. Oh, and Erikatoure Aviance is in it as the flawless flower girl. Doesn't get much better than that...
My new Fall 2009 Mix is up on my site www.aaronelvis.com and you can download it here. It's a continuous mix (with tracks for iPod users) and it's perfect for parties, workouts, or just dancing around the house in your underwear.
First, I love me some Erikatoure Aviance - she is amazingly nice and a talent that needs to be seen. Second, the song has been turning me for months. And third - the video is amazing. "Got me working to a turned-out cunty beat..."
Since it's the incomparable Katie Thompson's birthday today, I thought I'd post one of my favorite songs of hers that she performed at Birdland. Yes, it's been choreographed by dancers across the country (even on SYTYCD in Canada) but only because of the raw emotion that only she can convey with that crazy-powerful voice and spot-on lyrics.
This is Lady Gaga's new video for Bad Romance and it ROCKS!!! And that entire crystal outfit with matching shoes from Alexander McQueen is stunning (as are the McQueen shoes at the end of the video). She's not only arrived, she's pushed everyone aside to show how it's done.
I woke this morning having a bad dream that played one my worst fears. I won't go into details but it involved someone being unkind to me and was so upsetting that I didn't know if it was real or not. As I got out of bed with this horrible feeling, a song came to mind. Dunno if the song relates to the dream, but...
