I am a bit put off by the trailer of Adam Sandler's new movie I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. Isn't the "I'm-super-straight-but-am-pretending-to-be-gay" thang beat to death, not to mention DATED?? Not since Three's Company has the joke gotten so old so quick.
A few things that rubbed me the wrong way:
* Kevin James describing his character as "a fruit". Nice.
* An actually homosexual who is asking about domestic partnership freaks Kevin James' character out so badly (by saying hello) that Kevin James falls off the ladder he's standing on. Pratfalls are funny...
* Jessica Biehl is so flippin' hot that even gay guys would have sex with her, so the idea that only a straight guy would lust for her (therefore making him so-not-gay) is null-and-void. Sorry Adam Sandler. Perhaps you should have asked Drew Barrymore to play the role. Only a straight guy would fall in love with her. Besides, your chemistry in past films has been sizzling. Sizz-ling.
I could be wrong -- it could show why gays should be allowed to marry and become a very positive message for the gay community. Or the joke could be on the gays and it could suck balls (no pun intended). Only time will tell.
